Accessible Content Design course

This course is for anyone who already has some experience working with content or a good understanding of content design. You do not need to have the job title ‘content designer’.

You’ll learn how to make your content more accessible.

This course has tailored modules, practical exercises and real-life examples. It’s full of tips, how-to sheets and collaborative workshops.

We have three busy mornings of learning.

What's in the course

You'll learn how to:

  • improve cognitive accessibility and readability
  • describe images, write alt text and use image captions
  • make sure downloads are accessible
  • create accessible audio and video content
  • test your content
  • build accessibility into your content design process
  • prioritise accessibility work

The training team

You’ll learn from trainers with accessibility needs. Kevin Mc Laughlin and Marian Avery are both registered blind (they both have some vision), and use assistive technology every day.

Marian and Kevin have worked in accessibility and content design for private, public and charity organisations for over 35 years, combined. They have worked with, trained, mentored and coached thousands of people in content accessibility during their careers.

What previous participants say

“The course was packed with information and insights from start to finish, and provided a great reminder that there is always something new to learn. Marian and Kevin were engaging and approachable, they took the time to create safe spaces and facilitate insightful discussions around all aspects of accessibility. I know I wasn't the only one who walked away from the day buzzing.”

Course participant, March 2026.

“As seasoned content designers and users of assistive technology, Marian and Kevin are uniquely qualified to present these concepts to content design professionals. I was looking for a course offering that focused on the content-related aspects of accessibility, and that's exactly what they delivered. The material was highly relevant for my daily work, and I came away with a better understanding of where things often go wrong, and a few new ideas for how to make our organization's content more accessible.”

Roger Sheen, Senior UX Writer at Jimdo, September 2025.
